June's Day

June came over for a visit on a recent Saturday while her dad was working on a project with Clyde.

We decided to do a little baking.
She's very hands on with the baking....especially the butter.

She's actually a good little helper, measuring the sugar,

pouring in the chocolate chips.

She's especially good at taste testing

and licking the beater.

Even spooning the batter on the cookie sheets.

Naturally after we get our delicious Double Chocolate Oatmeal cookies baked we have to have a tea party with the boys when they take a break.

Even Papa Clyde got in on the tea party experience.

She helped clean up the kitchen,

then did some drawing....she's big on dots.

Petted Fluffy, which surprisingly my 17 year old cat tolerated fairly well.

Played with Koria

and then helped me take care of Raleigh who had broken a toe.

Poor Raleigh...although the cast didn't really bother him too much and June was obviously a great comfort to him.

Then June went out spent some time in the shop with Clyde, showing off her very stylish goggles.  Pretty soon she'll be welding out there with him...okay maybe not for awhile yet.

And since this little girl is so talented she ran the excavator with her dad for little bit.
What a busy little girl...just a typical visit at our house.

Anniversary Dinner for Vince & McKenzie

We had an anniversary dinner for my favorite niece and her husband a couple weeks ago.
It's hard to believe they've been married two years already!

We did a seafood boil

'cause it's Kenzie's favorite.

And June was excited about it too.

Vince had to do the heavy lifting this time

with McKenzie and Clyde making sure none of the good stuff rolled off the table.

This is one of those times that Clyde's fourteen foot long picnic table comes in handy, everybody can fit at the same table.

Messing around with an anniversary gift

testing out selfies with June....

And because Clyde had the quad out, Kenz was nice enough to give June a ride on it.

The best part of the evening was the AMAZING trifle that McKenzie made.
Yep, it's her anniversary and she makes dessert for everyone....worked out pretty good for us.

June couldn't resist a taste test.

It was SO good!

We ended the dinner like we do almost every one in the summer time,  sitting around the fire pit....what a fun evening.
Happy anniversary to Vince and McKenzie!

Timber!

If you ask Clyde, he will tell you that it is impossible to have enough shop space.  So it comes as no surprise that he's adding more buildings to his shop compound.  You may think that three shops would provide plenty of space, you'd be wrong of course.

The space between the two shops will be the location of the newest space.  Phase one of the project is to take down the trees.

He took down a couple by just shoving them over with the excavator.

Then he got out the chainsaw to do some falling.

Clyde says you don't have to be too good of a timber faller when you have an excavator there.

He made some cuts,

got in the machine

and pushed the tree over.

Of course a real logger would consider this cheating.

Then he had to limb the trees.

Walking down the length of the tree with a chain saw can be tricky.

So, this was all last weekend's project.

This weekend, Clyde had to call in the professional.

Our neighbor, Colin came over to fall the rest of the trees that were a little bit trickier.

Colin made it look easy.

Then he hooked his tape to the end of the log to measure it

while he was limbing the tree.

And then he cut it to saw length.  Those spruce trees have a lot of limbs.

Koira eventually came over to investigate what all the racket was about.

Meanwhile, Clyde was ripping out the stumps with the excavator.

Decking the logs...

and sorting the brush.
(The sun finally decided to make an appearance too.)

A little more limbing to do on the logs.

And stopping to pose for picture.
Really he was asking me, "is lunch ready yet?"

Now there's a big clearing between the two shops but still a lot more work to do.
Just another weekend project around here.
