Kitty Cabana

The other day I was skimming Pinterest (a dangerous hobby) and saw this clever idea

a kitty box hidden in an old dresser.

I thought to myself that I should be on the lookout at garage sales for an old dresser to copy the idea and then I remembered that I actually had an old, ratty dresser!
Pretty rough looking....
the kids had written on it and even carved their name in it.
I called my dad and told him my idea and to see if he had time to work on it, sure enough he did. (My dad is the best and can do anything, carpentry-wise that you can imagine.) So, I loaded it up and hauled it to his house.  That is pretty much the extent of the work that I put into the project, dad did everything else.
This wasn't so much a "do it yourself" project as it was a "get an idea and have dad do all the work" project.

When he sanded it down he discovered that the drawer fronts were actually made of black walnut.
The poor dresser actually started life as a nice piece of furniture believe it or not.
Dad sanded the whole thing down, cut out the drawers, added a back to the drawer fronts to make a door, put it on a piano hinge, cut holes on both sides, added moldings around the cat doors and put in a bottom to the whole thing.  And oh yea, painted it.
So, picture all of that in your mind because I don't have any photos of it.
Here's dad putting on the final touches.  He bought new knobs for the front and had to counter sink the screws so they would fit through the new, thicker door.

very final step...

All done!  Brand spankin' new again!

And here's where I did more work....I loaded it up and hauled it back to my house.
Check out the nice molding around the kitty doors.

I'm using it as a spot to feed my cats that the dogs can't reach.  So far, so good and as long as the dogs don't figure out how to open the latch, we're good.

George wasted no time finding the food dish....

and finding his way out the other side.

Even Fluffy, my 17 year old cat figured it out.  I wasn't sure she'd catch on but turns out you can teach an old cat new tricks.  It just takes her a minute to focus before she jumps through the kitty door.

So there you go, the kitty cabana!
My dad makes everything seem so easy, he did the whole project in less than 48 hours.  Pretty awesome, eh?  It turned out fabulous!

Congratulations to Casse

Here's a quick brag on my stepdaughter, Casse.

She just got done with college last month!

She kept on track even though she married this man and delivered this cute little baby all in the last year.

and managed to graduate with honors....what a woman!

While I was taking pictures of her...she was taking pics of us

Thumbs up....she must've got her shot.

Clyde texted her and told her...
look over here and hold up that diploma.

Baby Evelyn was worn out after the whole ceremony but she was still looking super cute.

Clyde was a little bit emotional...super proud of all that Casse has accomplished.

And I guess it's not a family gathering unless we memorialize the occasion with a group photo and Clyde's signature pose.  Casse's in-laws were awesome....so many great expressions and poses in this one!
It was a crazy, busy year and you did amazing.
I think you proved you can accomplish pretty much anything you set your mind to.
Congratulations to Casse!
